Matt, born and bred in Melbourne, is a highly regarded recruiter with over 15 years experience as an accountant and recruitment expert. Matt is well known for putting clients interests in front of his own. One of his favourite sayings is ‘I would never recommend anyone to my clients whom I wouldn’t recommend to myself’. As a consequence, he has built strong and enduring relationships with his clients.
One of Matt’s key strengths is that he understands exactly what accounting firms want through his 15 years experience as a public accountant. Candidates have to prepare to be asked a series of technical questions in an interview at Nobel Thomas. “Especially if the candidate is seeking an intermediate or senior role, he or she will be asked a series of questions to test technical competence. The questions aren’t too hard but it just gives me a feel for the candidates technical ability which many employers place a high emphasis on. Technical knowledge is an area that many recruiters fail to explore at the interview stage with the candidate”.
On a personal level, Matt is married with 2 children, has a passion for playing and watching AFL, tennis, golf and cricket and thoroughly enjoys spending time with his family and travelling.
Matt openly admits that he is not the right recruiter for everyone and is also selective with the candidates and employers that he chooses to take on. Matt says: “My job is to help both employers and candidates find the right fit. If I don’t find the right fit, I end up wasting my time trying to find an alternative placement which I cannot charge for. We have a very high success rate of candidates that we place the first time whom remain past the critical 3 month mark. These skills are what I have learnt over the journey and what I teach my staff and clients as well”.
